# Team building in Prague: how to choose an activity your team will enjoy

Start with the goal, then pick the format. A practical guide to choosing team building activities in Prague for groups from 15 to 200 people.

Most team building that people remember for the wrong reasons fails in the same way: the format was chosen before anyone asked what it was for. A quiz, a quest and a cooking class can all be great. They are just great at different things.

## Start with the goal

Before you compare activities, finish this sentence: "After the event, we want people to..."

- **...work better across teams.** Sales and product, or two offices that barely know each other.
- **...get to know the new people.** After a hiring wave or a merger.
- **...relax and celebrate.** The end of a big project or the end of the year.
- **...think about the future together.** Strategy, planning, a new direction.

Each goal points to a different kind of activity.

## Match the format to the goal

**Working across teams.** Choose something where groups depend on each other, not just compete. In our [Goldberg Machine](/scenarios/goldberg-machine/), every team builds one part of a giant chain reaction, and the machine only runs if every handoff works. That is exactly the skill you want to practise.

**Getting to know each other.** Mix people up on purpose. Mixed teams in a quiz or a city quest do more for new colleagues than any icebreaker, because people talk while solving something together.

**Relaxing and celebrating.** Keep the rules simple and the energy high. An evening quiz like our [Barfight](/scenarios/barfight/) works well here: easy to join, competitive enough to be fun, and it fits naturally into a party.

**Thinking about the future.** Combine a facilitated session with something lighter in the afternoon. A day or two outside the city, away from laptops, usually works better than an office meeting room.

## Think about the group

A few practical questions change the choice more than people expect:

- **Size.** Some formats work for 15 people, some need 50 to be fun, and some scale to 200.
- **Language.** Many Prague teams are international. Check that the host and the materials work in English, Czech or whichever language everyone is comfortable with.
- **Who might sit out.** Offer alternatives for anything physical, and make sure alcohol is never the point of the activity.
- **Season.** From November to March, plan indoors or have a solid backup for anything outside.

## Keep it the right length

Three to four hours is enough for most activities. Plan a clear start, a middle where teams are busy, and a finale where results are shown to everyone. Ending with food or drinks gives people time to talk about what just happened, which is where much of the value is.

## Ask afterwards

A short survey a day later tells you whether the event did what it was meant to do. Two questions are enough: what did you enjoy most, and what would you change.
